Alex Warren

If you’re looking to make contacts in Lausanne, our friend Sharon hosts the ETAS Vaud So-Pro events at the Lausanne train station almost once a month.

This Autumn, they’ll be meeting on the following dates.

September 18 (Wed) 7-9pm*
September 19 (Thurs) 6-8pm* (NB: earlier time)
October 30 (Wed) 7-9pm*
November 27 (Wed) 7-9pm*

For the uninitiated, So-Pro stands for social-professional apéros, and meets at TIBITS restaurant in the Lausanne gare, usually near the “Neuchâtel” or “Genève” alcoves. The cost is free, apart from whatever food and drink you consume.

The organizers ask that you RSVP to Sharon ( Sharon.Acton@unil.ch ) at least 48 hours prior, so she can organize the evening.

Also, don’t miss their October 12th workshop, “Maximising Student Talk Time”, presented by Alex Warren.

Workshop description:
We often hear about the balance of Student talk time vs Teacher talk time being key to success in the classroom. Certainly, for a student-centred, communicative learning environment, it is imperative that students get as many opportunities to speak as possible during the classtime they have. This is all the more important given that students often have only two or three periods of English a week. However, maximising STT is not just maximising the quantity, but also the quality of the STT in terms of its usefulness and productiveness. In this practical session Alex will help us explore what balance of STT vs TTT we should be aiming for; what constitutes quality STT; and how we can optimise it with our learners.
