It’s back to school time and I’m always full of big ideas and crazy plans for the new term. The real question for me is how can I fit it all in?

What is your planning process like? How far ahead do you have things figured out? Is this the way you’ve always done it? What even is a syllabus? Do you really need one?

These are some of the topics to discuss and we’ll get into some of the nitty gritty of actual lesson planning, too. Just bring yourself and your ideas and be ready to share some thoughts with fellow teachers in a relaxed setting.

Come join us in the newly renovated Tibits restaurant in Bern Bahnhof at 8pm on September 5th. Please RSVP by sending us an email or leaving a comment below so we are sure to have enough seats!

For a whole day of continuing professional development in Bern, make sure to attend the ETAS Professional Development Day on September 7th at the International School of Berne in Gümligen: plenary talks by Lindsay Clandfield and Briony Beaven plus a full slate of workshops on a wide range of topics. Download the programme and register on the ETAS website. Dave and I will be there, hope to see you, too!

Finally, just to do a little syllabus planning of our own, here’s Dave and I’s plan for the next few meetings:

  • 3 October: Vocabulary
  • 7 November: A more formal presentation by a guest speaker in a classroom setting–no noisy restaurant this week!
  • 5 December: Holiday party on the Bärenplatz
  • 9 January: Tips for keeping your conversation classes fresh
  • February: Winter break
  • March: Theories of learning (discussion happening online over the break as well as in person at the meeting)

Have you got an idea or issue you want to discuss? Wish we would meet on a different day of the week? Leave a comment or send us an email: ELT Springboard is here to serve the teaching community in Bern so we really value your input.

Have a good start to the semester and see you soon!
